Select the Best Soccer Ball

Many newbie soccer enthusiasts make the common mistake of simply picking up the cheapest option when they need a new soccer ball.

Aside from the tag price, there are many other important factors to consider as you look for a good ball. If you are not that familiar with how this works, read this article and learn a few tips you should keep in mind next time you visit your nearby sport shop.

Getting the right size is absolutely necessary. Novice soccer players may not be aware of this but there are different sizes for different age groups. Size 3, for instance, is recommended for younger gamers. On the other hand, size 4 balls are for pre-teen players while size 5 is perfect for teens and adults.

The weight is a significant aspect, too. Take note that lighter balls are always better than heavier ones. Also, hard balls can hurt your feet or head during game play. Do not go for a ball that’s too soft either because they are typically very bouncy. Select something in between and you’ll be much more satisfied.

Indoor or Outdoor

Another consideration you should keep in mind is the location where your games are usually held. There are soccer balls that are specifically made for indoor and outdoor use. If you are practicing indoors and playing games outdoors, then it will be a wise idea to buy a ball for both of these settings. Just make sure that you have the right size and it’s a guarantee that you’ll have a great game.

Rubber soccer balls are often the sensible pick for many buyers because they are affordable and sturdy. They are, however, not the type of ball used by professional players in the big leagues. Other materials you can choose from include PVC, leather and polyurethane.

Most of the time, cheaper soccer balls have butyl bladders and this is the main reason why these balls are not very responsive. Latex bladders perform better in the soccer field that’s why you should go with these balls.

Number of Panels

You may not be aware about it but the panel number in soccer balls determine how fast they move and how much control you have as a player. Some balls have as much as 32 panels but you will likely notice that those used for indoor games may only have 6 panels. These days, majority of professional leagues prefer 18-paneled balls.

Choose an Ankle Brace

Ankle braces can provide different levels of support from mild to intense. So it is important to wear the proper brace to allow your ankle to heal properly. A brace that is not supportive enough can lengthen the healing process and lead to possible re-injury. Braces are categorized by the severity of the injury: grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3. To choose the correct brace, you have to know what grade of injury you have.

Find the ankle brace that is just right for your injury by selecting the grade of injury that best matches your symptoms:

Grade 1: Mild Symptoms

o Little to no swelling

o Mild pain

o Mild limited range of motion

o Weight bearing and walking are still possible

If you have a mild or grade 1 sprain, use a compression brace that fits snugly but allows full range of motion of the ankle. This type of brace is meant to help with very mild joint support as well as provide compression to help reduce swelling (if any). You can use either an elastic or neoprene brace.

Grade 2: Moderate Symptoms

o Mild to intense swelling

o Moderate pain

o Moderate limited range of motion

o Weight bearing and walking are impaired

If you have a moderate or grade 2 sprain, use a brace that compresses the joint and provides more intense support with plastic or metal stays. The stays help take the place of the injured ligament and not only protect the joint from further injury, but provide you welcome relief and stability. Elastic or Neoprene braces are acceptable.

Grade 3: Intense Symptoms

o Severe swelling & bruising

o Moderate to severe pain

o Severe limited range of motion

o Inability to bear weight

If you have a severe or grade 3 sprain, splinting or casting and crutches for several days to 2 weeks are necessary, followed by immobilization in an ankle orthosis (a boot that restricts ankle range of motion), or a brace that restricts range of motion of the ankle. After you have healed enough to bear weight without the ankle orthosis, then use an ankle brace with stays to continue the support of the ankle and prevent re-injury for 4-6 weeks; then use when in high risk activities such as basketball, soccer, jogging etc.

Why use an Elastic Brace?

Elastic ankle braces are usually very comfortable and fit in most shoes. The unique property of elastic webbing acts like muscle because it is made like muscle, with long fibers stretching and contracting to conform to the body shape. These elastic fibers constantly pull in the same manner as muscles, helping to keep the joint stable. Elastic braces provide mild compression which can help reduce swelling.

Why use a Neoprene Brace?

Neoprene provides support and helps retain natural body heat for increased circulation and warmth to a specific area or joint. The support and increased circulation is beneficial in helping prevent injury, reduce swelling and speed healing. Neoprene can be extremely comfortable to wear for long periods especially if it is fabric lined.

Choosing The Best Basketball Shoes

There are many different types of brands when it comes to basketball shoes and it can be hard to choose the best basketball shoes when there are a lot to choose from. Getting the right ones can be beneficial to your overall experience and your style of play. This post will underline what it takes to choose the best basketball shoes.

What Is Your Style Of Play?
All basketball players have different styles of play and this means that different types of basketball trainers are going to suit them. You’re going to want a basketball shoe that suits your style of play by making you feel comfortable and confident when you’re playing. There are three different types of playing styles.

Aggressive players focus on their build and strength to win the ball and help their team. This means they’ll want a type of trainer that will protect them and ensure that they can move powerfully. Protection is important for these types of players due to the fact that they are going to be in many different situations where they will have a conflict with another player. Basketball trainers such as the Reebok Zig Slash do a great job in ensuring that your feet is protected with strong rubber and comfortable inside.

The speedy player wants to use their pace and speed to get around the bigger players and provide opportunities for the team to score. Having this playing style means they’re going to want basketball trainers that will benefit them by being lightweight and comfortable. A lightweight basketball shoe should help the speedy player by helping them move even faster and thus be better at what they’re accustomed to. A basketball shoe like the Nike Air Max Turnaround can ensure players are getting the lightest run possible.

The runners are the centre of the team and the heart which keeps it functioning. Runners as you might have guessed have to do a lot of running and thus want basketball shoes that are going to keep them comfortable but as well as that provide plenty of breathability. The Adidas Adipure suits centre player runners because it makes good use of its air mesh and has many comfortable materials to keep you running safer and longer.

What Is Your Skill Level?
How you perceive basketball shoes and what you’ll want from them will all be down to your style of play but also your skill level. If you’re a new player and just want to get out there as soon as possible you’re going to want to be looking at basketball shoes which are cheap but also provide you with the basic necessities.

Some Shoes like the Adidas Tip Off are a great example of this as they are cheap but also provide some great comfort while not being too heavy.

A medium skilled basketball player will have had experience at club level and will more than likely play every weekend for a local side. Players in this skill range tend to go for shoe types which ensure they’re getting a bit more out of their playing style. The Reebok Pump Omni Lite is popular among club level basketball players.

Highly skilled players and also ones that are possibly playing at a high level such as semi-professional and professional want the best that the market offers. Doing so gives them the best advantage and chance to be seen as a good player. Some Adidas shoes such as the Adidas Adizero Rose is endorsed by professionals such as Derrick Rose and makes it appeal to the public at a much higher level.

Read Plenty Of Reviews
Reading basketball shoe reviews is great for you as a buyer as it gives you more of an idea as to whether the basketball shoe is going to be a good match. Reviewers have taken the time to research the specific product so you don’t have to and often link to the cheapest merchants around. If you find a basketball shoe you like make sure you check out the reviews, see what people think and base your decision off that. Comparing lots of basketball shoes you’re interested in will also give you plenty of time to think and give you more options.

The information provided in this post should be enough for you to make a good decision. Getting the basketball shoes that give you a proper and correct fit should never be over looked.

Best Running Shoes

You have trained consistently for months, achieved your season’s goals and now your sights are set on winter training and next season. By this point, your running shoes (a loyal training buddy throughout the summer) should be looking fairly well-worn. They are super comfortable, they fit beautifully, but they just don’t provide the levels of cushioning and support they did fresh out of the box. It’s time for a change!

Choosing the best running shoes can be a tricky task though, even for the most experienced of athletes. Most likely, the manufacturers of your current shoes will have brought out a new version of your current model, possibly with vastly different characteristics. So, while it is not quite straight back to square one for the task of choosing a new pair, it is important to be discerning when choosing your winter pair.

In this article we will attempt to set out, in simple terms, the key factors to consider when choosing your new pair of shoes. If you choose the right pair, your shoes will help you to stay injury free over winter and lay the foundations for a successful season next year. However, if you make the wrong choice, you may suffer rubbing, black toenails or, worse still, long-term injury which will allay any hopes of a successful season next year.

A running shoe should feel comfortable the moment you try it on…..the running shoe should feel ‘right’. If the shoes feel uncomfortable, you should reject them. It doesn’t matter whether the particular brand/shoe is endorsed by Chrissie Wellington, Paula Radcliffe or Alistair Brownlee, they will not ‘wear-in’ and feel better.

A training shoe (as opposed to a racing shoe) should feel like it provides sufficient ‘shock absorption’ (a.k.a. cushioning) to protect your joints and muscles from the constant pounding they will endure during the next few months of run training. Different manufacturers use different cushioning systems but usually there will be an ‘EVA’ foam mid-sole, supplemented by one or more of air, gel or soft neoprene-like rubber. There have been no unbiased scientific studies to show that one cushioning system is better than another so the key is to try them all and then decide which feels the most natural and comfortable.

Much of the ‘feel’ of a running shoe will come from the cushioning and this is therefore a very personal choice that only you can make.

The question of support in running shoes polarises the opinions and advice of running shoe manufacturers and bio-mechanists worldwide.

What is support?
In very simple terms, the word ‘support’ in relation to running shoes, refers to the structural assistance provided by a shoe, to help an athlete’s foot strike the ground and push off through the toes with minimal lateral movement – rolling or collapsing of the ankle and the arch of the foot.
Support comes in many forms but, typically, there will be a more dense section of foam (referred to as a ‘medial post’) under the arch of the foot to provide resistance and reduce lateral movement. There are numerous supplemental methods of support and it is important to enquire and find out what these are while trying on different shoes.

Levels of support
Running shoe manufacturers say that each of their models of running shoe will fall broadly within one of four levels of support – Neutral, Mild-Support, Moderate-Support and Motion Control.
In reality, there are as many different levels of support as there are different models of running shoe and subtle differences in the structure of different models will mean that they are more or less supportive than others.

What level of support do I need?
This is a very complex question….

For a quick analysis (often referred to as a ‘gait-analysis’), pop into to your local running shoe shop, where they should be able to assess the broad category of support you need. For a more thorough analysis, contact a sports podiatrist or a University with a specialist Sports Science/Bio-mechanics department.

In respect of the more specialist analyses, you will usually be advised to purchase a specially moulded orthotic inner-sole, which will include specific support to assist your own unique foot-strike. Orthotics can cost hundreds of pounds, though unless you have a very unusual foot-strike, have unusual physical characteristics (e.g. one leg longer than the other) or you have suffered from prolonged injuries, these will usually be unnecessary. Ask the podiatrist/expert to recommend some specific supportive running shoes or, if they consider orthotics to be necessary, ask them to outline in detail the specific problem the orthotics will solve and the reasons why a supportive running shoe will not solve it.

The fit of running shoes produced by different manufacturers, and even different models produced by the same manufacturer, can differ substantially in terms of the length, width, depth and general shape. This is why it is crucial to try on a shoe before you commit to buying it.

The shapes of your feet are unique but fortunately, due to the number of different brands on the market, there should be a shoe which is a good match for the shape of your feet.

Broadly speaking, the shoes should have space around the toes, ‘wiggle-room’ for the toes to breath and prevent chaffing, and should be snug around the sides of the feet to ensure that the shoes are not slipping and sliding around. Often athletes, women especially, are used to their feet being ‘held’ by their day-to-day shoes. This is not the correct fit for a running shoe and will only lead to black-toenails and blisters. Comfortable ‘snugness’ and space around the toes are crucial.

In choosing the best running shoes there are many factors to consider and the numerous technologies employed by the major running shoe manufacturers on the market may seem overwhelming to even the most experienced of athletes. Stay calm though as there are several factors in your favour.

Retailers Return Period
Several major running shoe retailers now run schemes whereby you have the opportunity to buy a pair of shoes and return them (to swap for a different pair) within a month of purchase if you are not getting on with them. Take advantage of these schemes – but do give them a thorough test before returning shoes.

You are your own expert
Only you know what feels comfortable on your feet and what feels uncomfortable.

You have experience
You have run in running shoes previously and know what has worked. Look for similarities when trying on new ones.

You have a plethora of free advice available
Advice is available online, in magazines (though these are not strictly ‘free’), from running friends and in retail outlets. Seek as much information as possible so that you can make an informed choice.

Good luck in choosing your next pair of training shoes. The right pair and a great winter of training will lay the foundations for some superb performances next season!!

But actually finding the best deals will often be a little more difficult, and will require some thought and care as to where to go buy these items. There are plenty of ways to cut the costs of buying sports equipment, and whether it is by choosing equipment made by smaller brands or by buying items from the end of lines, it is possible to pick up discount sports equipment.

Vouchers and Coupons

The boom in the number of vouchers and coupons which are available both online and in newspapers and magazines has become big business over recent years. Finding ones that offer discounts at sports stores can be the first way to find the best deals on discount sports equipment. The most useful coupons are the ones which can be combined with in store discounts to boost the savings, and are well worth consideration.

Sale Items

One of the other places to search for great value sports kit is by looking at the sales when they happen both in high street and online stores, and for those who are more interested in the price than the brand, there are some excellent deals that can be found on discount sports equipment.

As well as the individual sales when they are occurring, there are certain periods within the year when many stores will be hosting sales at the same time, so comparing the different prices on discount equipment can be great to help people to get the best deal.

Shopping Online

Depending on the type of sports equipment that is required, it may be the case that it won’t be available on a discount in the high street sports stores. The more specialized a piece of equipment is, then the less likely you are to find it on sale, unless you’re going to a specialist retailer which focuses on that sport.

By looking for deals online, there are going to be retailers who will specialize in equipment for one or two sports. And even for the more specialized retailers, they are also going to be looking to have a regular turnover of stock, so they will also have offers for discount equipment. This is because their prices are going to be naturally lower because of the nature of selling online, so people are likely to get an even better deal.

As well as looking at specialist retailers online, there are also plenty of stores, or even auction websites where it is possible to pick up discount sports equipment for next to nothing. These are certainly well worth considering for those who are looking for more general or popular items of sports equipment.

Sports Equipment

Sports equipment is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. There are literally hundreds of commonly played sports, and each has its own unique equipment needs. From traditional games such as soccer and baseball, to the more modern alternative sports such as skateboarding and base jumping, the world of sporting goods is nearly infinite.

Home fitness gear is among the most popular categories of sports equipment. Each year in this country billions of dollars are spent on fitness items for the home. These items can be as simple as a pair of dumbbells, or as complex as a home nautilus system. Fitness videos and DVDs also make up a large share of this annual revenue. Much of this equipment is purchased from local sporting goods retailers, but it can also be purchased through online dealers, or in many cases, from television infomercials.

Footwear is another large piece of the overall sports equipment market. Most sports such as football, soccer, baseball and basketball require specialized shoes. In football and soccer, cleats are used to increase traction on grass surfaces. Basketball shoes use specially designed, flat tread surfaces in order to more firmly adhere to the wooden court. Running shoes and designed with specialized soles and insoles that are made to help absorb the shock on your ankles and knees. Because there are some many manufacturers and styles, athletic shoe companies spend millions of dollars each year on advertising in an attempt to stand out in the crowd.

In recent years, golf has gained considerable ground in the world of sports equipment sales. Once mainly confined to country clubs and the well-to-do, golf has recently seen a sort of renaissance among the general populace. It is now fairly common place for the average garage to contain at least one bag of clubs, right along side the ski equipment and baseball gear. As a result, public golf courses have begun springing up all over the country, in nearly every city.

Most sports equipment is easily located through a local sporting goods dealer. These are often large, box stores, but specialists can be found for most sports as well. Where these dealers can not be found locally, a quick search online will often lead to dozens of options.

Tips That Will Increase Your Snap Shot Power

The basic principle of the Hockey Snap shot is to mix the Slap shot and the Wrist shot, and make a quick powerful shot that will help the hockey player score more goals. Shot accuracy and quick delivery, plus the speed of the puck is what makes the hockey snap shot so devastating to goalies of all shape, ages, and sizes.

The first thing you will want to do when setting up for the snap shot, is to keep in mind that this shot needs to be fast and accurate. The secret to keeping the puck accurate is to keep your hands steady and firm. The hand that is on the shaft of your stick must stay put, it can not move up or down the shaft at all during your shot. You must also remember that the angle of your blade and the position of the blade of your stick when striking the puck. This solely depends on rather the shooter wants the puck to rise and hit the top corner, or are you aiming for the low corner.

Quick Puck Speed And Delivery!

The second point of the snap shot is to execute it fast, so that the puck hits the back of the net ASAP. Witch means you need to take a faster, and shorter wind up before you shoot the puck. In order to gain a faster shot, your knees must be bent with most of your weight on your back leg. Just like the slap shot you will need to shift your weight from back to front. You do not want to raise your stick high, you only want to raise your stick 6/ 12 inches above the ice. The shorter the height of the blade, the faster the shot will be.

Many hockey professional agree that the snap shot is a great compromise of the Wrist shot and the Slap shot. The Deceptive nature of the Snap shot is what makes this shot so great and successful on the ice and around the hockey world.
